Thank You BBQ

Thank you to everyone who helped us help those in need after the devastating floods three weeks ago! We were glad to be able to host a BBQ last Saturday to give back to the community and allow those we helped to thank the wonderful people and businesses that donated food, cleaning supplies, toiletries and much more.

Fibre Arts Retreat 2022

A weekend away, surrounded by your craft (spinning, knitting, weaving, felting,…..) and crafting friends. Sounds great, doesn’t it! Now’s the time to book in to our annual Fibre Arts Retreat 29-31 July 2022 in rustic Mapleton in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

The weekend starts Friday afternoon when you can catch up with old and new friends. All meals provided, so you’ll have time to craft without worrying about cooking (or cleaning up!). Friday evening we have planned some skill share sessions where you can polish up old skills or learn new ones. And throughout the weekend there are several workshops. (Download our workshop brochure here.) And, if you would rather a more unstructured weekend, you’ll have plenty of time to work on your own projects (or get a massage). There will be several opportunities over the weekend to shop with our fibre vendors, including goods from our own Emporium. Craft ’til you drop (or at least until after lunch on Sunday).

For more information and to book your place, visit our Fibre Arts Retreat page and scroll down to the bottom.

See you there in July!

Crafting Christmas Cheer…

ABC radio Brisbane loves hearing about ideas from QSWFA to keep kids’ creative hands busy while getting ready for Christmas and setting the table for a festive meal. They invited Michelle for an interview yesterday morning to give a few quick and easy, no skills required, make at home, decorations……

Profile: Weaver’s Interest Group

Weaver’s Interest Group is a bit different from some of the other groups at QSWFA. After all, it’s difficult to cart your floor loom into a meeting! The monthly meeting (1st Wednesday at 10 am) is more of a study or discussion group than a crafting session. Each month we discuss a specific topic and bring examples that we have woven. We also have ‘show and tell’ for our recently completed projects.

At the November 2021 meeting, the topic was wearable handwoven clothing. Members brought in some lovely garments and wraps – some beautifully tailored, and others with minimal construction but nonetheless stunning.
