Pop in and see us at Richard Randall Studio at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens at Mt Coot-tha. Our members have been very busy making beautiful work to sell. You can buy handspun, handwoven, felted, dyed, sewn, knitted, crocheted, and all handmade yummy items.
Join us in making beanies for ABC’s Kat Feeney’s project for the charity GIVIT. We are knitting and crocheting beanies to keep Brisbane heads warm. Acrylic yarn is best to use as it’s easiest to care for. Drop off at ABC studios at Southbank or our premises at Auchenflower by or on 30 June 2023.
Need a beanie pattern?
There are lots of free patterns on the internet. Google is your friend! For example, if you can knit only plain (knit) stitch, try googling “garter stitch beanie pattern free beginners” or something like that.
Also, if you’re unsure of a technique, do a search on YouTube where you will find many helpful videos.
In the meantime, here’s a pattern for beginner/intermediate knitters.
We are excited to present the Fibre Arts Expo, an exhibition of our members’ finest works at the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens Auditorium.
Held from 10 to 12 June, 9 am to 5 pm, the Fibre Arts Expo showcases work that is not only of the highest calibre in craftsmanship and technical ability, but which also speaks to the intricacy of expression, the intimacy of design, thoughtful communication, and visual excitement.
There will be a diverse range of traditional and contemporary fibre arts skills on display including Spinning, Weaving, Dyeing, Paper, Bookmaking, Basketry, Stitching, Knitting and Crochet.
Judged by a panel of experts, entries will be evaluated on concept, design, and technique. Visitors are also invited to choose their favourite to win the Viewer’s Choice Award.
Attend Fibre Arts Expo for an eye-opening view of the creating process with demonstrators scheduled for each day.
The art gallery experience is also complemented by an on-site Gallery Shop, the perfect place to pick up handmade warm winter garments and accessories.
Finally, relax in the Café with a cuppa and delicious hot lunch or sweet treat.

The Exhibition Opening is on Friday 10 June at 6.30 pm.
We have been getting together to crochet, knit and felt fungus. Yes, ghost fungus in fact. It is a bioluminescent fungus local to SE Qld. We are making an art exhibit, ‘Neon Night Garden’ for Botanica which is on from 20-29 May at night in the City Botanic Gardens.
If you would like to make some with us, the patterns are below. The finished fungus has to glow yellow or green under black light so you have to use special materials that we have sourced.
