Life on the land celebrated in Landline’s 30th birthday quilt.

Landline is celebrating 30 years on ABC TV and we want you to help us mark the occasion.

We’re making a commemorative quilt from squares created by you.

The theme is Life on the Land, which could mean animals, vehicles, landscapes — whatever regional and rural life means to you.

Use your favourite fibre, yarn, and thread, and create something you’re happy to hand over permanently.

Here are the creative specifications:

  • Finished size 15 cm x 15 cm square (max 2 cm thick) with finished edges (binding).
  • Feature any techniques, ie knitting, crochet, patchwork, felting, embroidery, applique, weaving, dyeing, spinning, lacemaking.
  • Use any colours you like.
  • Feel free to use texture and embellishment.

Please send your completed piece to:

ABC Landline, GPO Box 9994, Brisbane 4001.

Please include your name, address, phone number and email with your submission.

Squares must be received no later than April 30, 2021.

Follow Landline’s Facebook and Twitter accounts see the final product.

Queensland Quarantine Quilt on ABC news….. nationally!

Jenny Woodward from ABC Queensland News posted on her Facebook page:

It has been such a delight to be involved in the Queensland Quarantine Quilt. The project was brainchild of ABC Brisbane Breakfast presenters Craig Zonca and Loretta Ryan.

The challenge was to design and make a 15 x 15cm quilt square in any medium, that represented your life in lockdown in 2020.

The squares were collected and then arranged and sewn onto a backing sheet by the amazing members of the Queensland Spinners Weavers and Fibre Artists Association. A mammoth effort completed by a dedicated team.

The Quilt was on display the ABC at Southbank Brisbane and will then go to the State Library of Queensland to be treasured forever.
